Greenbank Church Children's Library Books
Greenbank Church has a wide selection of books suitable for children and families to borrow from the Main Hall after Sunday services, and from the new halls' corridor at other times.
In particular there are some books that might help children with their worries or troubles – some examples are described below.
‘Tom’s Special Talent’ by Kate Gaynor, illustrated by Eva Byrne, is a story about Tom who finds reading difficult because he is dyslexic. He finds out that although he can’t read and write well, he has a special talent for drawing and painting. This is celebrated and he gains confidence and realises he is just like the other children.
‘Rainy Day’ by Emma Haughton is a story about a boy called Ned, whose Dad is taking him out for the day. It’s raining and they can’t go to the fair so they go for a rainy walk and have a good time together. Later the sun comes out and things get better and Ned goes home thinking everything will get better soon.
Another story about parents separating is ‘Children Don’t Divorce’ . A couple are splitting up and the children find it worrying but there is a happy ending.
Michael Rosen’s ‘SAD BOOK’ is very good as it explains about mourning and how difficult it is to lose someone you love. It is beautifully illustrated too and should be useful when someone has died.
Another book dealing with death is ‘Granpa’ by John Burningham, when a little girl who sees her grandfather often has to cope with the fact that he is very old and then he dies. As usual John Burningham ‘s book is beautifully illustrated and explains how it feels when someone isn’t here anymore.
