Sole nominee - Martin Ritchie

I am delighted to let you know that the Nominating Committee has chosen Dr Martin Ritchie to preach as sole nominee for our vacancy. Martin is a 45 year old married man.  He is currently Probationer Assistant at St Mary’s parish church in Haddington where he has stood in for the Minister during her illness. During his training Martin also had placements at St Bryce Kirk in Kirkcaldy and Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh and summer placements in Ghana and New Jersey.

Martin was born in Edinburgh in 1972, but his family roots are in the north east of Scotland. While growing up he lived all round Scotland but it was in Dingwall during his secondary school years that his faith developed, partly through his passion for church music. Martin studied Scottish Historical Studies and Scottish Literature and, later, Theology at Edinburgh University.  He has just graduated from New College with a PhD in the worship experience of the reformed church. He worked for ten years in performing arts management and is an accomplished musician.  He has a strong interest in the relationship between faith and the arts, and has directed music in two congregations.

Martin is married to Sarah who is from Michigan in the USA and has also just graduated with a PhD from Edinburgh, in Science and Theology.

It was quite a week for Martin and Sarah, with their graduations and the invitation to Martin to preach as sole nominee for Greenbank.

I will report more formally about the next steps once we have a date for Martin to preach and for us then to vote on appointing him.
